RaiTries: Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser

Hi guys! :)

Today, RaiTries the Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser, it's a face primer...what is a face primer?

Face Primer/Makeup Primer/ Foundation Primer - is a base for foundation or makeup that allows it to go on smoother and makes your make up last longer (http://www.huffingtonpost.com).

A primer is applied before a foundation and it suppose to make your makeup application smoother and easier. It also extends the longevity of your foundation. So if you're in for a night-long party or a you're attending a garden wedding where you'll have to endure and/or avoid the sweating but still wishes for a "forever living" foundation...then you'll be needing a face primer.

The Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser is my first ever primer. I have no idea what a primer does when I bought it, I just did a few research and watched reviews afterwards (I know, I know...kinda stupid right?). What actually caught my attention was the "PORE ERASER" statement very visible in the packaging. I have humongous pores, it's a life long dream to have the perfect Korean skin...I mean...wala silang poooores. They're like porcelain dolls :) So it was a "suntok sa buwan" move when I bought this product. #hopeful

Where to Buy: Maybelline booths nation wide, department stores (almost all the dept. store in the malls), drugstores that hold makeup products (Watson, etc.), few online shops (but I don't recomend that since you'll have to pay for the shipping fee)

Price: P299.00, sometimes it's on sale :)

Amount: 22 ml

Packaging: Easy squeeze plastic tube, I really don't mind if it doesn't have any pump since it has a viscous consistency (not runny at all)

Scent: NO SCENT :) always a good thing.

Application: Very very smooth application, it literally glides on your face. I experienced no problem in this part.

Coverage: N/A (it's a primer guys...) well, we can test it for pore coverage (see results below hehe)

Day's activity: Office girl only, no travels/field works (Airconditioned room)

Weather: Super init

Claims/functions: Insta-blur technology, visibly smoothes pores away. Can be worn alone or under makeup. Non-comedogenic* and fragrance-free. Poreless smooth skin, lightweight and breathable.

*comedogenic - tending to cause blackheads by blocking the pores of the skin (thanks Mr. Google)

LET's GO :)

Here is the little baby :) I'm sure it looks familiar, it's almost everywhere.

Let's not forget  the moisturizer, we don't want a patchy skin. I'm using the Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream.

Small amount will do (half face application only). It's viscous, fragrance-free and application ready :) No need for sponge, brush, etc. Your fingers are the perfect tool.

This side (below is the zoomed pic) is the side without the Maybelline primer. Large large pores...I know. Lighting is a bit off in the picture...

This side with the Maybelline Primer. It reduced/minimized my pore size, it felt like a "palitada" to my face, I'm not sure if that is the term. It filled out my pores that's why it looked smaller. It may not totally erase my pores but it blurred out other blemishes and face bumps. But the most noticeable effect is it actually gave me the BABY SKIN feels just like what it actually claims. Super soft skin after application.

I usede a medium to full coverage foundation (Revlon Colorstay) to really test the "hold" of the primer and my trusty RealTechniques Sculpting brush.

This side of the face without the primer, with foundation this time. Pores are visible :(

This side with primer and foundation. I'd say that my skin looks a little flawless here than the side without the primer. Less pores are visible too. Happy with the product so far :) But it's still early to tell...let's see if the product has an effect to the longevity of the foundation. (Time check: 7:00 A.M.)

I left the left side of my face with Maybelline Pimer and the right side without so we can see the primer's ability to hold my foundation.

Ok...OIL + PORES. Hmm it's now 11:30 AM, almost lunch. Oil builds up (the usual) and pores show. But foundation is still there and blush-on still ok.

Yes! OIL but less pore visibility :) I think the primer did a good job in minimizing my pore size. Foundation...check. Blush-on...check. (Happy so far)

And we're home. Haggard as usual. It's now 8:00 PM. foundation is still there. I did use a good foundation.

(Without primer) Blush-on barely visible, foundation still ok I guess but you can see visible redness around the nose and pimple marks. Veins and other blemishes not yet visible. And yes, I am oily.

(With primer) Hmmm. Blush-on barely there too. Foundation is holding its place I think. Redness around the nose, veins and other blemishes not yet visible, pimple mark already there huhu. Foundation is better on this side. But one thing I noticed, this side is smoother compared to the other (so hard to describe smoothness on pictures hehe)

PROS:

I personally think that it stayed real to its claim of minimizng visible pores (but not to the extent of "erasing" your pores...some were still visible). It also contributed to the longevity of my foundation since redness and veins were already visible on the side where primer isn't applied. Best deal is the BABY SKIN part, it really does makes your skin baby-like, soft and smooth :) It is also lightweight...it doesn't feel heavy nor sticky even after sweat and oil. Fragrance-free is also a plus point, scentless products is always better than the usual chemical scent makeups have. I also didn't experienced any problems with the packaging plus it is affordable.

CONS:

As stated above...it really does't "erase" pores...it just minimizes. It may have also contribute to the longevity of the foundation...but not the the extent that it is obvious. My foundation on the left side (with primer) is not totally different on the right side (without primer).

Final thoughts:

I will continue using this primer because it's a good deal and I still need to test it out. It wouldn't cost you much actually (price wise). It did a good job in making my skin smooth and it made the foundation application easier. It also minimized my pores :) I still have to try it out...maybe with BB and CC Creams and other foundations that are low performing to really test its ability to prolong the foundation :) Overall, it's a good product...too early to tell if i'll love it or if i'll find a better primer (I'm a beginner in the primer world). But for now...this will definitely do :))

That's it guys! I hope you find this review useful. Comment below if you know any primer that's worth the try. Always always remember...BE BEAUTIFUL, BE YOU.

Lots and lots of love,

Raisa

  1. I've also heard some that say it didn't work well as they expected it with foundation. But your skin looks really nice with it. Will have to go and try them for myself when I get the chance next time. You should try Quick FX no shine mattifier if you haven't already and when you get the chance :D
